WW2 Guide Lamp Liberator Pistol.An original and extremely rare WW2 U.S. Guide Lamp Liberator .45 single shot pistol. In 1942 the US Government decided that it required a large quantity of cheap arms to drop to various resistance and guerilla units in occupied territories of the far East and pacific theatres. The OSS asked the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors, Detroit tro make the pistol and in 3 months it had made 1 million of cheap throw away metal. Spare rounds could be kept in the hollow grip. Following the end of WW2 a number of these weapons remained in the hands of French and Belgian members of the resistance. In order to enable them to be possessed legally the Belgian Govt allowed them to be officially proofed and retained on licence. This is one of those weapons and it has the immediate post war ELG Belgian proof stamps and a serial number. This is a rare original example which cocks and dry fires as it should.
