An outstanding India pattern Brown Bess musket with 39'' barrel with 'Kings proof' marks to the L/H side of the breech and
'5)S2061' stamped to the side plate and L/H side of stock.
Lock has a swan neck cock and the plate is engraved with the GR cypher & Tower.
Walnut full stock, iron ramrod, regulation brass furniture. Rebrowned barrel. A blancoed leather strap is fitted.
The marks '5)S2061' denote Swedish Government ownership, this musket is one of a consignment sent to Count Bernadottes Army in 1809 by the British Govt.
Superb original condition, undoubtedly one of the best for sale in the UK currently.
This musket has no doubt had an interesting life. It is highly likely it was used (by the Swedes) in the 1813 Battle of the Nations and has subsequently found its way back to the UK, possibly after Waterloo.
A truly fantastic piece.
