Description

A Queen Ann period sea service brown bess musket.

The firearm was made 1715 by Vaughan, one of the first Tower of London contractors.

It has been converted from a dog lock musket and is fitted with early brass regimental mounts with an early produced frizzen.

The lockplate is stamped with the "GR" Royal cypher stamp and a stamp for the "Vaughan" company followed by "15".

~ Dimensions ~

The barrel has a length of 42 inches (106.75cm) with the musket having an overall length of 58 inches (147.25cm). It weighs 4.5kg.

~ Condition ~

The musket half cocks, cocks and releases with a very strong spring. The barrel retains a decent thickness at the muzzle. The stock has suffered from worm in the past. It is chipped behind the lockplate.
