~ 42" Short Land Pattern Brown Bess Musket ~

The Brown Bess, with a 42 inch barrel, dates to circa 1770, has the regulation mounts and is complete with its bayonet, both strap swivels and its ramrod.

The lock plate is stamped Parkes and with the Crown over GR.

There are a pair of Kings proofs marks to the upper barrel.

~ Dimensions ~

The musket has an overall length of 57 inches (146cm) with a 42 inches (107cm) barrel. It weighs 4.7Kg.

~ Condition ~

All in very tidy condition. The woodwork is varnished, has some bruising and minor loss around the fore ring. The barrel retains a fair degree of bluing, now oxidised to brown. All metal work is in very decent order, though the marks on the lock plate are rather worn. It half cocks, cocks and release with a strong spring.
