Description

A mid-19th centrury fine brass mounted North African Kabyle snaphaunce (flintlock) Jezail musket.

The gun has a sighted octagonal barrel with a swollen muzzle. The lock is of the Dutch form and with a sliding pan cover. The barrel and much of the body is beautifully decorated with engraved iron & bands. The trigger guard has extensive inlaid silver. It is fitted with its original ramrod.

The woodwork is in great order with only some minor surface, it is free from splits.

The gun has a length of 61.5 inches with a inch 48 barrel.

It has a strong spring but the trigger does not currently release.

The jezail (sometimes Jezzail from the Pashto language) was a simple, cost-efficient and often hand-made muzzle-loading long arm commonly used in British India, Central Asia and parts of the Middle East in the past.
